Custom fabrication

If you can imagine it, ask us

Some of the projects we are proudest of started with someone saying they were not sure it could be done — a curved bar over a stacked stone base, a stone table for a boat, a fireplace wall cut to an opening that was not square anywhere.

Fabricating in our own shop is what makes those answers possible. Here is what that changes about your countertops.

What custom changes

Four things a pre-cut top cannot do

Rooms are not square, and stone does not forgive that

A prefabricated top assumes a rectangle: square corners, flat walls, standard depth. Houses rarely oblige. Walls bow, corners run a degree or two off, and cabinet runs shift slightly during installation.

Templating measures the room you actually have. That is why a custom-fabricated top sits tight to the wall instead of leaving a gap you fill with caulk and try not to look at.

Layout decides how your stone looks

On a slab with real movement, where the pieces are cut from matters as much as which slab you chose. The same stone can look calm or dramatic depending on which part of it ends up on the island.

We lay the pieces out before cutting so the strongest feature lands where people gather, and so the pattern continues sensibly across a seam rather than stopping dead at it.

Seams are a decision, not an accident

Large kitchens usually need a seam somewhere. The question is where. A seam placed for convenience lands in the middle of your view; a seam placed deliberately lands where a cabinet break, a cooktop or a change of direction hides it.

We talk about seam placement with you rather than discovering it on install day.

Cutouts have to match real fixtures

Sink, faucet and cooktop cutouts are fabricated to the actual items going in, which is why we ask you to have them on site before we template.

Doing that work in the shop rather than in your kitchen means the openings are cut and finished properly, with the inside curves eased the way you will feel them every day.

Edges change how a counter feels

The edge profile is the part of the countertop you touch constantly, and it changes the character of the room more than most people expect — a crisp modern edge reads very differently from a softer traditional one.

We will show you what we can produce for the material you have chosen, and let you feel the difference before you decide.

Unusual ideas need someone who will measure them

Curves, angles, boat tables, pool bars, ledges and pieces with no name are a normal part of our week. What they have in common is that they cannot be ordered — they have to be measured, laid out and cut for one specific place.

Every project is measured, fabricated and finished for the space it belongs in. If an idea is not something we can build, we will tell you plainly rather than take it on and hope.

Work we have taken on

Categories of custom stone we build

Every item here is work we have actually done. If your idea is not on the list, that is not a no — it is a reason to call.

  • Curved and angled bars

Bar tops that follow a curve, wrap a corner or sit over an existing masonry base, templated to what is already built.

  • Unusually shaped counters

Rooms that are not rectangles, walls that are not square, and layouts a stock top cannot cover.

  • Islands

Seating overhangs, waterfall ends, prep sinks and multi-level surfaces, laid out so the veining lands where you want it.

  • Fireplace pieces

Hearth pads, surrounds, mantel caps and full slab feature walls cut to the opening as built.

  • Boat tables

Stone tables built for boats and docks — one of the more unusual requests we have taken on, and one we enjoy.

  • Pool bars and ledges

Poolside bar tops, serving ledges and hot-tub surrounds for outdoor entertaining space.

  • Outdoor kitchens

Grill surrounds, prep runs and lakeside counters, in materials chosen for the exposure they will live in.

  • Laundry and utility counters

Counters over washers and dryers, folding surfaces and mudroom landings.

  • Bathroom vanities and shower stone

Single and double vanity tops, plus supported shower and tub surround stonework.

  • Tables and one-off pieces

Dining and side tables, shelves, window sills, niche ledges and pieces that do not have a category yet.

Local matters here

One team from slab to installed countertop

We are a family-owned shop in Grove. The person who walks the racks with you is part of the same team that templates your room, lays out your pieces, cuts them and sets them.

Around Grand Lake that also means we know the houses — lake homes, docks, outdoor kitchens and remodels where nothing is quite standard.

FAQ

Custom work questions

What does custom fabrication actually mean?
That your countertops are cut from slabs chosen for your project, to a template of your actual room, in our own shop in Grove — rather than picked from pre-cut sizes and trimmed on site.
Can you build a shape that is not a rectangle?
Often, yes. Curved bars, angled runs, waterfall ends, rooms that are not square. Bring us the space and the idea and we will tell you honestly whether we can build it.
Why does slab layout matter so much?
Because natural stone is not a repeating pattern. Where a piece is cut from the slab decides whether the strongest movement lands on your island or ends up hidden under a cabinet.
Can you match an existing countertop?
Sometimes. Natural stone varies quarry to quarry and lot to lot, so an exact match is not something we will promise sight unseen. Bring a photo or an offcut and we will look at what is realistic.
Do you take on small custom pieces?
Yes — vanities, shelves, window sills, tabletops, hearth pads. Smaller pieces are often good candidates for remnant stone.
